The Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op has received funding from Heifer International to develop an urban gardening project. The project includes a site for raised bed gardening and a small greenhouse where we utilize an aquaponics system to grow our own vegetables. There is an emphasis on job development skills in the horticulture industry with job readiness, as well as a potential for a high school credit.
A goal at CNYC’s urban gardening project will be to include a mentorship aspect with a couple of partnering elementary schools. Youth involved in the program at CNYC will teach younger youth how to plant a small garden and teach the importance of local food and caring for the environment. |
